Joey Chang

Joey Chang

Joey Chang Improv Trio Piano, voice and dance
As a classically-trained pianist, Joey Chang involves himself in summoning the history of classical language and applying that training to free form, improvised artistic expression. For this evening, Joey Chang will share the stage with formidably trained artistic collaborators to perform interactive improvisations, the topics and themes of which will be taken from the audience in a true collaboration of all. Through these, they will explore what it sounds like, looks like, and feels like, when a group of people get
together and draws upon the totality of their trained experiences in service of a momentary presence in time – to communicate something never communicated before. www.joeychangpianist.com

January 5, Saturday. 7:30 pm

“In Memory of a Great Artist”
Yves Dharamraj (cello); Filip Pogady, (violin); Vassily Primakov ( piano)
All – Tchaikovsky program. The concert is dedicated to 125th anniversary of Tchaikovsky’s death.
Truly international group consisting of Franco – American cellist Yves Dharamraj , Slovakian – Austrian violinist Filip Pogady and
Russian pianist Vassily Primakov. They will perform one of the most breathtaking chamber music pieces ever written – Tchaikovsky
Piano Trio in A Minor dedicated to composer’ s teacher, mentor and a friend Nikolai Rubinstein.

The rest of the program will encompass solo piano works by Tchaikovsky including numbers from the Concert Suite “The Nutcracker“. Captivating his audiences with a “primer of technical feats” (New York Sun), and his warm, lush tone “that might be described as something akin to rich old wood” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), Yves Dharamraj has earned a worldwide reputation as a dynamic cellist who blends an immaculate command of the instrument with deep musical understanding to express his fresh and elegant interpretations. As soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and teaching artist, Yves enjoys a multifaceted career that takes him to the major stages of the United States and abroad, including appearances at Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center (New York); the Kennedy Center (DC); Orchestra Hall, Ravinia Festival, and Chicago Cultural Center (Chicago); Disney Hall (LA); National Arts Center (Ottawa); Berliner
Festspiele; Téatro Nacional (Dominican Republic); Panama Jazz Festival; and the Thailand National Cultural Center (Bangkok). https://www.yvesdharamraj.com

Filip Pogády has been praised by the press for the beauty of his tone and his “lightning-like virtuosity”. Pogády has performed in some of the most renowned concert venues such as Lincoln Center New York, Rudolphinum Prague, Konzerthaus Vienna, Tel Aviv Opera House or the Lotte Hall in Seoul. TV appearances include a guest starring on Louis CK’s popular TV-show “Louie” where he acted as a subway violinist. www.pogady.com

In recent years, Vassily Primakov has been hailed as a pianist of world class importance. Gramophone wrote that “Primakov’s empathy with Chopin’s spirit could hardly be more complete,” and the American Record Guide stated: “Since Gilels, how many pianists have the right touch? In Chopin, no one currently playing sounds as good as this! This is a great Chopin pianist.” Music Web-International called Primakov’s Chopin concertos CD “one of the great Chopin recordings of recent times. These are performances of extraordinary power and beauty.”

Schumann – The complicated genius
Complete Piano Sonatas.
Sonata #1 F Sharp Minor op.11
Sonata #2 G Minor op.22
Oxana Mikhailoff, piano

Sonata #3 F Minor op.14
“Concerto without an Orchestra”
Vassily Primakov, piano
The Romantic era was intimately associated with the conjuring-up of dreamworlds, and no-one dreamed with the intensity of Schumann. “I am affected by everything that goes on in the world,” he once confessed. “That is why my compositions are sometimes
difficult to understand, because they are connected with different states of mind; and sometimes striking, because everything extraordinary that happens impresses me, and then impels me to express it in music.”

Oxana Mikhailoff and Vassily Primakov have known each other for nearly 30 years. Both spent their formidable years at the Moscow State Conservatory under the tutelage of the legendary Professor Vera Gornostaeva. Sharing these experiences formed an unbreakable bond between these two pianists that inspires them to perform such substantial programs and educate their audiences.
